Oh yes indeed, we have yet another mind-blowing, heart-wrenching, and all manner of hyphen-laden hyperbole show for you this week! We’ve managed to get the whole crew together, sans The Viceroy and JB, who are currently en route to LA to join in the “Picketing with the Stars”. So Lucas “The Geek”, Janelle, Vince and Imoticon all talk turkey on all manner of geeky goodness. Get ready for an Otaku Onslaught as we discuss Hiroki Endo’s Eden: It’s an Endless World and then dig into some video game discourse on Rockband and Guitar Hero III. The crew also talks about the new digital age of comics and Marvel’s upcoming plans to take their expansive library into the 21st century with Marvel Digital Comics Unlimited.Just click on any one of the wonderfully eye-catching buttons below to play, download or bookmark this totally new and truly outrageous gem of a show.

The New Banner

No, we’re not having a sexual encounter with Harry Potter (though I’m sure Janelle…and MAYBE Vince wouldn’t mind). We’re gonna be rocking Wizard World Chicago starting in, oh, about 2 hours! Boo-yizzle! Look TONIGHT for the premier of our all-new all-different feature that we’ve been promising for about 2 months, THE POCKETCAST! We’ve got so DAMN much content coming to you this weekend, it can’t be contained in a simple show, so we’ll be putting it out in bite-sized bits. Look for Panel coverage here and from us and our other Best Shots and Newsarama friends at the Newsarama site, and look forward to interviews with creators, cosplayers, and editors, oh my! So if you want the best Wizard World coverage around, join Newsarama, Shotgun Reviews, and Shots in the Dark for a killer weekend!

Howdy, folks!

Saturday, March 31st, 2007

Hey boys and girls, I thought it was time for me to come say hello on here! Wow, what a crazy exciting time for us, and heck, for you too! Our move to Shotgun was a great one, and we’re all exceedingly excited about it. There’s so many things going on right now that I don’t even know where to start. I guess I’ll just pick one and be off…

First, the brand spankin’ new site! It’s very shiny. It’ll be about a month or so before we have all the little tweaks we want added in, but it’s nice to have a home to refer people to! Plus, it’s in my favorite colors, red and black, which makes me all happy like. But just keep checking in, as there will be regular changes going on around here.

Second, our first podcast is going to be uploaded for your enjoyment this Saturday, April 7th. That actually coincides with the birthday of the person who got me into this crazy geeky mess, my brother, so it all works out in a very zen way. We’re working on some great content for you. We’ve got some great new sound thingies and whatnot, I don’t know what all we’ve got, but then that’s Vince’s job. I just know that when you finally hear it, it will be both interesting and pleasant on the ears. I know that I myself have a review of Diddy Kong Racing DS lined up, plus a little love poem from us to GameTap (*loving sigh*), and lots of geek news! These couple of weeks that we’ve been off-air has made me really jones for it, and I know the guys feel the same way, so I just KNOW that this first show is going to be amazing - as is every one that will follow.

Third, we’ve got our launch party that we’re planning. There’s a lot of stuff to be worked out as to what exactly will be going on and where, but that’s what happens when you develop crazy ideas for the unfortunately not so distant future. We’ll have a fun event for all of you Chicago folks to attend, so keep your ear to the ground. As of right now, we’ll have a couple signed Brian K. Vaughn books to auction (as well as more signed comic creator swag that’ll be flowing into the SitD offices over the next couple of weeks), a video game raffle, and much much more - plus half the proceeds will be going to the Hero Initiative. You won’t want to miss it, I promise!!!

In other randomness, Lucas and I watched all 22 episodes of Buffy season 7 in 2 days. It was kind of scary. But so awesome. I cry like a girl during that last episode. Which, of course, makes sense given that I am a girl. Hmmm… I’m also reading a couple new mangas and watching some new anime so that I’ll have some good Otaku Onslaughts for you in the coming weeks. And gaming like crazy. I’ve become addicted to Age of Wonders II, which I got on GameTap. It’s just so freaking addictive, and I can’t stop playing it even when I know I should be doing other things, like work, or school. As if those things are important! Bah.

Anyway, I think that’s all of the actual semi-intelligent things I have to say for the night. I hope you’re all as excited as we are about getting this thing off the ground, and we’ll see you…. errrr… you’ll hear us next week!

A New Era

Thursday, March 29th, 2007

Well, here we are. Shots in the Dark- you don’t see us, but you always hear us. I’m Lucas, aka The Geek, and I’m here to welcome you to a new era.

What was the old era, you ask? Well, we’re not gonna talk about that much. Let’s just say there WAS an old era, and all 6 core members of this fantabulous new blog/podcast team have worked together on a different podcast previously. In addition to that, Janelle and I have been writing for Best Shots and Shotgun Reviews for a while now.

What’re we bringing to this new era? I’m so glad you asked! First and foremost, we are a Podcast team. There’re tons and tons of podcasts out there nowadays, but not a lot that cover the broad range of “Geek Culture” that we do here. Between our original content in the form of bits, segments, and more to come, and our amazing interviews with people like nerdcore rapper MC Lars and DC Senior Editor Mike Marts (and that was just in a 3 week span!), we are going to bring nothing but the best to your tempanic membranes. For those who are more visually stimulated, that’s why we have our full site, and of course, this here BLOG

As for Reviews, we’ll be reviewing just about everything under the sun. We have cool reviews coming up on some newish Nintendo DS games, and some hot gear from Logitech. If you’re wondering if you should be throwin down those hard earned ducketts on something, we’ll let you know here.

So, if you’ve heard us talk before, you’re in for the best of the old and a whole crapload of exciting new.

If you’re a new listener/reader, welcome! We officially launch on April 7th, and we’ll be jumping into this thing head first. Stay tuned for the announcement on our exact topic- we want to keep you in suspense a little longer.

Until then, visit our site, talk to us on our forum, and most importantly, geek out!

-Lucas
