One of my
all-time favorite heroes in The Flash. I’m not sure why, but
it’s true. As a kid, I was always thrilled to see him on the
Super Friends cartoon. The Flash was the first Super
Powers figure that I got. There’s just something inherently
cool about being really, really fast.
Of course,
The Barry Allen Flash wouldn’t be the same without the lunatic
collection of opponents that menaced him throughout the years.
The Flash’s Rogues Gallery featured some truly memorable characters
that had somehow never made it to figure form (with the exception
of the Reverse Flash ToyFare exclusive, and that was a mere
repaint). Finally, DC Direct has catered to their fans again
with stellar versions of Captain Cold and the Mirror Master.
Captain
Cold: One of two Rogues to actually get membership to
TV’s Legion of Doom (the other being Gorilla Grodd), Cold
has to be among the most recognizible Flash antagonists. The
character is truly done justice in a remarkable sculpt by
Derek Miller. The very detailed face features a removable
version of Cold’s signature visor (complete with eyeslits).
Cold’s gun looks just like it was peeled from an Infantino
drawing. As
for articulation, the figure carries eleven points (neck,
shoulders, elbows, wrists, hips, and knees) for some solid
poseability. The sheer look of this colorful figure is, well,
cool.

Mirror
Master: Not quite as striking as Captain Cold, but still
a great figure in his own right, Mirror Master is another
addition to the DC Direct stable that just makes good sense.
The figure has articulation equal to Captain Cold, and paint
op is just as solid. Derek Miller really captured the look
and essence of the character well. I’d definitely recommend
this one highly as well.
DC Direct
has recently started to embrace the villains of DC, and that’s
a good thing. Sinestro and Star Sapphire will debut soon,
with characters like Grodd and Eclipso soon to follow. DC
has always had the greatest respect for their heroes; it’s
great to see the dark side get their props as well.
Upcoming
Figures from DC Direct include:
August:
Sinestro, Star Sapphire, Wonder Woman/Wonder Girl two-pack
September: Elijiah Snow, The Drummer, Jakita Wagner
October: Lobo, Gorilla Grodd, Eclipso
November: Daniel, Desire, Delirium, Superman/Lois two-pack
December: Wildcat, Power Girl, Solomon Grundy, Green Arrow/Speedy
two-pack
January: John Stewart, Tomar Re
February: Kyle Rayner, Fatality

sixty years.
