THE
THIRD ANNUAL INDIANAPOLIS NEWS PERSONALITY BEAUTY PAGEANT:
A SHOTGUNREVIEWS.COM TRADITION
Once again,
it's time for one our favorite traditions here at the Mighty
Shotgun: The Annual Indianapolis News Personality Beauty Pageant!
It's one of our most popular features and causes much local
discussion.
What's
ShotgunReviews.com?: Why, it's your internet source for
reviews, news, comedy and commentary. We cover just about
every aspect of pop culture, including film, music, TV, pro
wrestling, comics, politics, and more.
The
History of The Pageant: The Pageant began two years ago
while the site was young. The first winner was the lovely
Jordana Green, then of Fox 59 A.M. A year later, Jordana took
the top prize again, with her morning pal Shireen Sandoval
coming in second. Site founder Troy Brownfield presented Jordana
with an official crown on the air. Later in the year, Jordana
left Fox 59, ceding her crown to Shireen in a beautiful on-air
moment that we of course taped.
The
Rules: Our panel of six judges each voted for five ladies
who work in Indianapolis as either anchors, meteorologists,
or on-air reporters. Their first place selection receives
50 points, the second receives 40, and on down. Total points
are compiled, and the winner is the one with the most total
points. There were votes for a large variety of ladies. Sticking
with tradition (and Dave Letterman), we decided on a final
list of ten. And, as always, the annual vote for Clyde Lee
was disqualified.
10)
Pam Elliot of WISH: Though most of us usually aren't up
early enough to watch Pam on a daily basis, she still claims
a spot on the countdown. Congratulations on the recent birth
of her daughter!
9)
Tracie Wells of WXIN: Tracie represents for that bastion
of pulchritude, WXIN. In the past, they've been like the Yankees
of the Indy Beauty Pageant. This year, though, a new dynasty
has begun . . .
8)
Andrea Moorehead of WTHR: Making the list for the second
time is the extremely classy Ms. Moorehead. We've said it
before and we'll say it again: she scores major points because
her name sounds like a Bond Girl.
7)
Julia Moffitt of WTHR: Ms. Moffitt holds the distinction
of having dined mere feet from most of our voters at Red Robin
in Castleton as we celebrated the site's Second Anniversary
this past summer. We're sorry we were loud.
6)
Shana Kelly of WISH: Shana was in the anchor's chair on
the weekend morning show last year when Troy was invited on
to discuss writing comic books. When he mentioned that he
was one of the people behind the Beauty Pageant, she did not
act as if she were near a stalker. That makes her cool on
top of cute.
5)
AJ Sterling of WISH: Rookie sensation AJ Sterling nabbed
a ton of points in the balloting this year. Expect to see
more of her in the future.
4)
Martha Weaver of WRTV: It was put best by voter Ken Johnson
in 1999: "The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse could be tearing
up downtown; as long as Martha Weaver was telling me, I'd
be all right."
3)
Shireen Sandoval of WXIN: Alas, Shireen may have ascended
to the throne when Queen Jordana departed, but two rookies
have leaped ahead in the polling. Honestly though, Shireen
can look forward to being a contender for some time to come.
2)
Joy Dumandan of WISH: Arriving in Indy just after last
year's festivities, Joy Dumandan vaults over the list with
an incredibly strong second-place showing. Joy needs to remember
that if our winner is unable to fulfill her duties, or leaves
for a larger market, then she must be ready to step in.

Angela Buchman
|
Angela
Buchman of WISH: Rounding
out the rookie explosion and taking the top prize is yet another
lady of WISH, meteorologist Angela Buchman. Having done time
in Lafayette and the West Coast, this was Angela's first year
of eligibility for the contest. Angela scored more voting points
than Queen Jordana did during her first reign. It's amazing.
There she is, Indianapolis: your 2001 News Personality Queen!
That does it for this year. We'd like to thank all of our
contestants for their continuing good humor. We'd also like
to note that whoever does the hiring at WISH has one of the
best jobs in the city; Mike Ahern is indeed the Circle City's
Mac Daddy.
Questions,
comments, and the usual humorless complaints can be directed
to ShotgunReviews.com Editor-in-Chief Troy Brownfield at psikotyk@aol.com.
