A Celluloid Comparison
Bedazzled the Original vs. Bedazzled the Remake

By Li Rapkin

Bedazzled the Original
Bedazzled the Remake
  • Stars Peter Cook and Dudley Moore
  • Stars Elizabeth Hurley and Brendan Fraser.
  • Peter Cook plays the devil, wearing a suit and cloak.
  • Elizabeth Hurley plays the devil, wearing a succession of skimpy red outfits.
  • Looks dated, but still plays well.
  • Will look really dated in a few years, doesn’t play well now.
  • British humor.
  • Not funny.
  • Script with multiple plotlines, written by Peter Cook.
  • Dumbed-down script barely has one plotline, could have been written by a sixth-grader.
  • Cameo appearances by three of the Seven Deadly Sins.
  • Dead boring.
  • Guest appearance by God, who is, of course, British.
  • No God insight, no matter how much you pray for the projector to be hit by lightning.
  • Nuns on trampolines.
  • Elizabeth Hurley in a push-up bra.
  • Dudley Moore’s comic acting.
  • Brendan Frasier’s comic acting.
  • A great ending.
  • It's great that it ends.
  • Would make a great double feature with Dogma.
  • Dogs might enjoy it. You probably won’t.
