I’ve
Just Thought of 102...
On
my recent sojourn through Artist’s Alley at the Wizard World
con, I came across several books that engaged me either on
a level of wit, fun, or artistry. This wasn’t one of them.
101 Uses for a Turd, a throw-back to those early ‘80s
tomes like 101 Uses for a Dead Cat or 101 Unspeakable
Acts, strains for cleverness but plops out something that
drops far short of the mark.
I
will say that Mitchell possesses some skill as an artist.
As bad as some of the images are, at least the art itself
doesn’t look like shit. Maybe I don’t have the right sense
of humor for this kind of work. Obviously, the fecal point
itself is the joke, and it’s just not funny. I can’t groove
on images like that of a person about to bite into a hot dog
bun loaded with a frank from Nature’s Sausage Press.
Honestly,
I feel kind of bad for Mitchell. The guy can draw, but this
project seems like he just made a list of things that can
look like turds and drew them (the book has no dialogue (save
for an introduction and an appendix about the appendix). I
wish that he had taken his artistic skill and turned it to
something else. As it is, 101 Uses for a Turd is just
crap.

funny.
