with Julie Strain
Interview

When I
started doing The Big Question, my intention was to start
with people who had high profiles in comics and move on into
talking to figures from other media, like film. Well, our
newest addition to the roster fits the bill in many ways.
First of all, she's got a high profile in comics by being
the inspiration for the main character in FAKK2, as well as
being married to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle co-creator Kevin
Eastman. Secondly, she's a bona fide movie star, appearing
in dozens of films, including Heavy Metal:FAKK2. In
addition, she's got her own action figure, AND she's been
a Penthouse Pet of the Year. Ladies and gentlemen, a multimedia
diva who actually earns the use of the word, the one and only
Julie Strain!
THE BIG Q&A
Q1. Similar to Kevin's reputation in comics, you're an
icon in your own line of work. Do you find dealing with the
adoration of hoardes of fanboys a difficult task?
A1.
No, I love it, but my body usually runs out of food, and
I flee at the end of a signing! But they keep my spirits up
and they collect the same stuff I do---ME! So it's a fun common
ground. The message board on my website, juliestrain.com,
often accounts of these crazy events, and what I eat to make
it through a show...!!!
Q2.
In Wizard magazine's Casting Call feature, you appear frequently
as their ideal choice to play various characters. I personally
think you'd be an ideal Catwoman. Are there any famous females
that you yourself would like to portray?
A2.
Catwoman is hot, but the Wonder Woman would be less...and
a lot less, and sexier, and easier to wear 100 days a year
during the taping of a TV series! I did audition for the new
Wonder Woman series, which was a hoot, even though I didn't
really think I had a shot at it...I mean I think I would be
the best person for the job, but would they...anyway the project
was shelved, and for now we'll never know.....What is funny
though, I did an interview with an out of state paper, and
I said "I'm the Wonder Woman of the 90's" now, I didn't say
that I'm "the" Wonder Woman of the 90's, I'm "a" Wonder Woman
of the 90's....not really thinking too much about it at the
time, when the phone calls started rolling in asking for the
newly "cast" Wonder Woman for the new Warner Bros series...blah,
blah, blah...and I had a lot of explaining to do.....crazy!
Q3. Out of your entire catalog of films, what are your three
favorites and why?
A3.
"Fit To Kill", ....because I looked fit to kill in my Kata
scene and I kill loads of people, shooting, head-butting,
blowing them up....and spitting on them when it's all said
and done...a real bad-ass....
"Dark
Secrets" because I got to play a Dominatrix and really hit
people "HARD!" and get to wear black leather and kiss a really
sexy girl in the rain in slow-motion that would give a priest
a hard-on. And the money on that job didn't suck either.
"Heavy
Metal" because I didn't have to get out of my PJ's to do the
voices, spend 2 hours in make-up for close-ups, or spend day
after day on the set for four months, to do all the amazing
stunts required to make this such a big time action movie....
Q4. This is basically just a curiousity from me. While
I was in Grad School, I worked at a video store. The manager
wanted me to make genre sections and sections for various
actors and actresses. Among my choices, I made a Julie Strain
section. Do you find that there are many other sections dedicated
to you?
A4.
I love that you did that, it is so cool, and I can't thank
you enough for thinking of me enough to do something so special...there
is only one other example that I can think of, and that was
a good friend in my home town...that was cool but yours is
so much cooler...I would love to be "the" ultimate cult chick,
but in the meantime, as long as I'm having fun, and you're
watching...I think we're okay...heh....
We would
like to thank Julie Strain for taking time out of her busy
schedule to answer our questions. Don't forget to check out
the various Heavy Metal:FAKK2 projects, including the magazine,
the film and the kick-ass FAKK2 figures. I'd like to think
of something witty to say, but the description of "Dark Secrets"
blew that all to hell. Hit her website at www.juliestrain.com.
